November 2018 Newsletter

With a Fizz, Bang and Whoosh…here is November!

First, a big thank you to everyone who took part in our Walk for Parkinsons Challenge on October 13th. Their sponsorships meant we could sponsor in 8 pairs of Activator Poles which are key for our Parkinson’s members to get the full benefits of Nordic walking; there is a lot of research that demonstrates how effective it is for them and overcoming the characteristic traits of Parkinson’s. It will be the “challenge” that just keeps on giving.

Save the date, 1st December! Our Christmas Walk and meal is now booked; full details below. Please do join us for this very popular annual event. It is one of the few times that so many of us get together and catch up outside of our normal busy schedules. Partners are also invited. We are also encouraging a car share as we are exploring further afield.

Also, it’s the Santa Run, 9th December, organised by the Reading Rotary and there is a Nordic Walking category! Let us get as many people signed up for this fun 5km event. Who will take the fastest Nordic Santa cup this year?

We have made a few changes to the walk diary so that more people can enjoy our popular Nordic Walking evening sessions. You have asked for a 60 minute evening session, which is now on Monday evening at Thursday. This is perfect for those who just want a quick session or are gently easing back in to fitness.

There are also some new Well Being sessions aimed at a more gentle pace. Our Parkinsons members have thoroughly loved the adventures around South Hill Park in Bracknell. The Well Being sessions are also great as a Taster as you do not need a Freedom Passport to book on. We use the Activator Poles which ideal for Nordic Walking novices. Who do you know who may like to come along to one of those sessions?

Our Thatcham walks will have a makeover thanks to our new walk leaders, Debbie and carol. They have been out and about recceing new walks to add to our Wednesday mornings, plus we shall add them to Fridays in the New year.

Finally, Carla, our Nordic Walking Speed Machine, starts her Instructor Training this month. Please do wish her good luck. It really makes our heart soar when our members love Nordic walking so much that they want to be Walk Leaders, and then want to train as an Instructor.

Stay warm; remember to wrap with thermals and layers! As you start to chop out the miles you will warm up fast! Don’t forget to add your hi-viz and lights!

Please do read our feature blogs as they tie in with our themes that help to keep you inspired and motivated to continue to get stronger, sleeker and younger with Nordic walking.

Come along and feel the magic of Nordic Walking.

Please register and book on in advance. We supply the poles; just wear clothing appropriate for the weather and decent grippy soled shoes.
