There are no age barriers with Nordic Walking

Over the last few months we have had the privilege of working alongside Get Berkshire Active and a few of their projects to encourage different groups of people to get out and get active. The health benefits of exercising outdoors are huge and add in to the mix the benefits of Nordic walking then it has the wide appeal for a range of abilities and ages.

Nordic walking has been helping our members with:
*Getting Fitter
*Getting more toned
*Losing weight
*Getting in to smaller clothes
*Sleeping better
*Improving back and postural issues
*Loving the new friends and social element of outdoor fun
*The online booking system makes it easy to plan, prepare and commit to health and fitness goals
*Totally addictive fun with variety and giggles.

This week we had the fun of sharing the magic of Nordic walking with the local “The Silvers Workshop”
It’s one of the ‘Men in Sheds’ organisations. They were invited as part of a Reading Football Community Trust partnership initiative with Get Berkshire Active. In the hour we had there were giggles, sharing of how the poles made them feel upright, walk with confidence and workout their upper body.

One gentleman shared how it felt as effective as the pilates he had been doing since recovering from prostate cancer treatment.

Nordic walking isn’t just about improving cardio and respiratory strength it is also a wonderful way to gain strength and suppleness to complete day to day chores such as getting in and out a chair, moving shopping from shelves to trolley to car and into the home, sweeping, changing bed sheets, the list is endless.

Above all Nordic walking as a group helps break up the day and engage in outdoor fun; for some just the chance to chat and safely enjoy the fresh air is pure joy. Some people live in isolation without any contact with the outside world.

This is a project we are passionate about as it’s a green prescription to positive mental and physical health. We have another FREE taster session at the Madjeski stadium on the 11th January, 1.30 – 2.30. Please book in advance here. There should be refreshments and a tour of the Stadium after.
